The Nomad Chair

Form Theory

Purchase when you’re young, keep it with you until you’re old.

The Form Theory project presents a unique and interdisciplinary opportunity to collaborate as a team to develop a concise design philosophy reflective of historic understanding. In this project, students will design and assemble a chair that serves as a physical manifestation of their shared design philosophy deeply connected to historical design philosophies.

The Brief

Drawing inspiration from the De Stijl movement and Rietveld’s design philosophy, we developed our Statement of Design Philosophy:  We believe good design should be adaptive, and therefore practical, and long-lasting.

Altogether, this produced a timeless model that can be used in various settings. this is a piece that can be bought when you're young and of use until you're old. The Nomad was featured in the Subtle Exhibition in downtown Anderson’s Chiquola Building. It was displayed on a raised pedestal, accompanied by a wood-engraved plaque, alongside the pieces produced by our peers.
